General description of the SeraQuant
The SeraQuant is an instrument for the quantitative analysis of immunological membrane test-cassettes. These tests indicate the presence or absence of a substance in question with the aid of colored bands. These bands possess different color intensity and saturation depending on the concentration of the analyzed substance for which the test is for. By means of a special algorithm the SeraQuant determines the intensity of the bands, which makes it possible to draw a conclusion about the value of the concentration.
Furthermore, the unique software makes it possible to easily and clearly document the results of measurements and to supplement with their appropriate descriptive data in a database. The preserved data can then be sent over the network, printed, or exported to other programs.
Applications and advantages of SeraQuant
The SeraQuant gives advantages for a broad application range with various immunological membrane test-cassettes, for example in the forensics. It can be used with the SERATEC® PSA Semiquant for the rapid detection of sperm liquid, the SERATEC® HemDirect for the rapid detection of human hemoglobin, and also SERATEC® tests for detection of drugs and narcotic substances in the urine. These tests are in daily use by laboratories all around the world in more than 40 countries. The SeraQuant substantially supplements the professional work with the membrane rapid tests by the following advantages:
- the subjective evaluation of the qualitative results of rapid tests (presence or absence of colored bands) is validated with the objective quantitative result (value of substance concentration)
- the reproducibility of results is increased, particularly in cases when the colored bands of the rapid tests are expressed weakly at boundary values of sensitivity. In such cases the mere visual evaluation may cause different interpretations. The objectivity of analysis with the aid of SeraQuant removes uncertainty and doubt and serves as the reliable source of arguments for decision of further actions
With increase in precision at boundaries of measurement range the sensitivity of distinct tests gets enhanced, too, so that particular tests are able to detect smaller substance concentrations reliably compared to mere visual approximated interpretations. Thus, certain drug abuse may still be detected even after longer time of consumption, when the concentration in the urine decreases with time.
